ProHealth Insight is an online educational resource to improve your understanding of your health and your health care experience. The site is a spinoff of Proactive Health Outlet founded by Victor E. Battles, M.D. in 2006.
Victor E. Battles, M.D. is a board-certified internist with more than 30 years of patient contact. He practiced internal medicine for 20 years and has past and present experience as a disability consultant. He has been a principal investigator in several clinical research trials. He has performed utilization review for various organizations, and has served on hospital utilization review and quality assurance committees.
ProHealth Insight is a dynamic and interactive website with a special emphasis on preparing consumers to adapt to the changing health care climate resulting not only from health care reform, but from other elements of change.
The site contains many articles written by Dr. Battles. Other authors’ articles and readers’ posts are welcome as long as they are relevant and provide value to readers. All posts are moderated and requests for future articles will be considered.
In addition to written articles, some topics are also in an audio format. This is for two reasons. First of all, some people are more auditory learners than visual learners. Secondly, reading material first, then listening at a later time reinforces the learning experience.
With an emphasis on health literacy, this site focuses on helping you find, understand and utilize health information that is beneficial to your well-being and of value to you overall in your health care experience. Helping you to become engaged in your medical care is a key objective in light of the importance of patient engagement in this era of health care reform.
Our mission is to provide insight, not just information. We realize that medical information can be very technical and that the overuse of technical jargon can be self-defeating. At the same time, it is beneficial to know the meanings of some of the terms you are likely to encounter. Therefore, links to parts of other articles provide definitions for technical terms, so as to make the reading experience more fluid.
Our goal is for this website to be a benchmark resource for enhancing health literacy – not just for consumers to access of their own accord, but also one that physicians will refer patients to as a means of meeting many of the challenges they face in the wake of health care reform and other changes in the industry.
Thank you for visiting this site. If you find it helpful, let others know about it.
